Filings have been remarkably steady in Taylor County: 4,290 tax cases over fifteen fiscal years, between 234 (FY2012) and 334 (FY2024), averaging 286. What moved was the backlog. Pending cases rose from 262 at the end of FY2013 to 472 at the end of FY2024, the highest in the series, before easing to 444 in FY2025 when dispositions (311) finally outpaced filings (281).

Of the FY2025 dispositions, 145 ended in a judgment after a bench trial and 155 were non-suited or dismissed by the plaintiff, which typically follows payment.

Where the figures come from
We ran the Texas Office of Court Administration's “District Court Activity Detail” report for Taylor County once for each fiscal year from FY2011 to FY2025 and saved the Excel output on October 12, 2026. In the civil part of each report, the “Tax” column supplies every tax figure here: active cases at the start and end of the year, new filings, total dispositions, judgments after a non-jury trial, and cases non-suited or dismissed by the plaintiff. The all-civil count is the report's Total column for new filings, and the percentage is our own calculation.
No numbers were estimated or adjusted. A blank in the source would have stayed blank; none occurred for Taylor County.
